GLOBAL GARDENS
It seems simple. Climate change is a global issue of grave importance - why wouldn't politicians want to do everything in their power to stop it and make America a part of the solution? However, politics are the opposite of simple, and money often gets in the way. Because America's campaign system is so reliant on wealthy candidates, it is common for those running for office to build their political platforms based off of who donates the most money, rather than what would make the world a better place. This is at the root of the climate change issue, as fossil fuel companies often donate, knowing that in return they will receive support for their industry. In 2004, oil and gas companies contributed over $25 million to political campaigns.

Because of this, one way to contribute towards curing the climate crisis is to be conscious of who you vote for. As Americans, our vote is a mostly guaranteed way to have your voice heard and make a difference. You can choose to vote for candidates who refuse money from polluting companies, particularly those in the fossil fuel industry, support climate legislation, and have a detailed climate action plan. Your voice matters!
